Short films are rampant on the internet. They are perfect for attention span deficient techies and teens, easy to upload because of their small file size, and easy to view in a not-so-comfortable desk chair.
The 15 Second Film Festival has taken the short film to a whole new level. They commission, promote and distribute short films in a very unique way. They have created “a small, but perfectly formed, two-seater itinerant Art-Deco Picture Palace” that “has threatened to become the best traveled phone booth sized box since the TARDIS.” If you are in the United States, however, their tour dates are very limited. They tour mostly in the United Kingdom and Europe. To get a proper understanding of the 15 Second Film Festival and what they are all about, you really must visit their website: www.15secondfilmfestival.com.
Two films from this festival are now playing in Virtual Village: W8ing4Godot and Doodling. W8ing4Godot is a perfect fit for the library because it combines the current culture of technology and text messaging language with classic literature. This marriage of the new and trendy with the old and classic is what the library strives to accomplish every day. Doodling is a sweet, short film about creativity, imagination and impermanence. Both are a delight.

It seems that kids are always the first to know about the coolest things. The first time I saw the now-infamous Mentos/Diet Coke geyser I was in a friend’s driveway and her eight and ten year old grandsons were gleefully spraying diet Coke all over the driveway and yard. This “science experiment” was taken to grand proportions by the two man, mad scientist team who call themselves Eepybird. They experimented with the elements of the geyser until they put together quite a show including a “Bellagio-style” fountain. They then put the video. This is yet another example of the internet’s capacity to create a literal overnight sensation. They were quickly noticed by the media and within a month of the first experiment, they performed the act on The Late Show and the Today Show.
Eepybird’s most recent video takes the humble Post-it note and creates a fantastic array of color and motion. Their ability to take everyday items and turn them into an entertaining display shows true ingenuity.
